MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) - The Senate has formally archived the articles of impeachment against former Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez, as senators vowed to focus on urgent legislative matters with only 12 working days left before session adjourns again.
Malacañang is wishing Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez well as she leaves her office today. Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda thanked Gutierrez for “sparing the country from a protracted impeachment trial.” “We wish the Ombudsman good fortune in her private life,” he said.
Gilberto Teodoro Jr. said he could not consider for now returning to government service, even as Ombudsman. Teodoro thanked Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago who recommended him for the position that will be vacated by Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez starting May 6.
